Blown away by this. Tough subject matter handled delicately and beautifully. Cannot wait to dive into the rest of Brandon Colvin's work!
Some truly beautiful exterior compositions, but the pacing was a bit slow for my taste. The scene at the end with her father was really nice.
From my Letterboxd: THE WORLD DROPS DEAD is an absolutely devastating work of modern metaphysical slow-cinema from the 21st-century American Bresson, Brandon Colvin. Not a full review, just a huge recommendation for this haunting film directed, written, and edited by Colvin, who also delivers a fine performance as well. Featuring a poetic and heartbreaking leading turn by the brilliant young actress/filmmaker Yumna Jane and lovely cinematography by Cody Duncum, THE WORLD DROPS DEAD is pretty perfect. Jane is especially powerful, appearing in nearly every moment of this precise 70-minute film. Featuring a brilliant droning score from Colvin's band, Before We Vanish, THE WORLD DROPS DEAD is a real triumph. While making Paul de Lussanet's MYSTERIES in 1978, opposite Sylvia Kristel, Rutger Hauer lamented that very few films had dared to focus on suicide intelligently, or at all. Hauer would have admired Colvin's film very much. Colvin's 2024 film indeed has a suicide at the heart of its story. The way his script and direction handle both the human and spiritual ramifications of this act is remarkably soulful and unforgettable. Massive recommendation -Jeremy Richey, October 2026-
Ngl i thought it was over for lil bro when he graved the knife. Feel that ending tied movie together wonderfully when Claire and her dad reunite
Loved it, but I'm biased!
Super intense. Felt on edge the whole time, but in a good way. Really well shot too.
Love the visuals
