Privacy Policy
Effective / last updated: October 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Rec Hall collects, why, and how it's used. Rec Hall is operated by Rec Hall Movies LLC, a New York limited liability company. If anything here is unclear, email ryan@rechallmovies.com.
1. Information we collect
We collect:
- Account information: your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase), and anything you optionally add to your profile, like a username or avatar photo.
- Billing information: your subscription status, the Stripe customer and payment method identifiers we need to bill you, and a record of your accrued weekly charges and past settlements. We never receive or store your complete card number — Stripe collects and tokenizes that directly. If you subscribed through Whop, we instead receive your email address and your Whop membership's identifier, status, renewal date, and payment amounts — never your card details.
- Viewing information: which film you watch, when, and for how long. See Section 3 — we treat this as sensitive.
- Content you post: any public rating, review, or comment you choose to leave — on a film, or, before launch, about Rec Hall itself.
- Site usage: which pages you visit, a randomly generated identifier stored in a cookie so we can tell repeat visits apart (not tied to your name or email unless you go on to create an account), and, if you arrived from a marketing link, the campaign tag on that link. On our homepage, About page, and Subscribe page, Meta's advertising cookies are also set. See Section 6.
2. How we use this information
We use it to operate the Service: authenticate you, process payments and renewals, deliver the featured film to your account, show your reviews, send you the transactional emails described in Section 4, understand in aggregate how each film is watched (see Section 5), and keep the Service secure.
3. Video viewing information
We treat what you watch and when as sensitive information. Your video playback is delivered through Mux, our video-hosting provider — see Section 5 for how we identify you to Mux. We do not combine your viewing history with your name or email and hand that combination to any third party for advertising or behavioral- marketing purposes, and we will not add code that does so without telling you first.
4. Emails we send
Today, Rec Hall only sends transactional email: account confirmation, password reset, and email change emails, a welcome email when you subscribe, payment receipts, security notices, a cancellation confirmation, the weekly programming announcement (sent to members when each week's film goes live, and once when you join partway through a week), and — rarely — a notice if a film has to be replaced or pulled mid-week. We do not currently send promotional or marketing email. If that changes, we will only do so with your separate, explicit opt-in — never bundled into your acceptance of our Terms of Service, and never pre-checked for you.
5. Mux and video playback
We use Mux to host and stream the featured film. When you watch, Mux receives a pseudonymous internal identifier tied to your account (your Supabase user ID) — never your name or email — so that playback works correctly for you. Mux also records playback measurements tied to that identifier, such as when a film was played and for how long. We look at these only as totals for each film — for example, how many members pressed play and the average time watched — to understand which films are working. We don't use them to build a profile of you, and we never share them with advertisers. This identifier exists for Mux to operate video delivery and playback measurement on our behalf, not to build an advertising profile.
6. Analytics and tracking
We run our own first-party visit tracking, entirely on our own servers: which page you visited, the referring page if any, a randomly generated identifier stored in a cookie for up to a year so we can tell a repeat visit from a new one, and — if you followed a marketing link (for example, from an Instagram ad) — the campaign tag on that link, stored for up to 90 days so a sale that happens after you first click still credits the right ad.
We also use Google Analytics 4, a third-party analytics service. It sets its own cookies and collects information about your visit (pages viewed, general device/browser information) and, if you subscribe, records that as a conversion — this is shared with Google and governed by Google's own Privacy Policy.
We use the Meta Pixel to measure and improve our Instagram and Facebook ads, and only on our homepage, About page, and Subscribe page. On those pages it sets Meta's cookies and tells Meta which of those pages you visited, general browser and device information, and whether you started checkout. When you subscribe, our server also tells Meta that a subscription happened, sending a hashed (encoded) copy of your email address, Meta's cookie identifiers, the ad-click identifier if you arrived from one of our Meta ads, and your browser's user-agent, so Meta can match the subscription to the ad that led to it. Meta receives and uses this under Meta's own Privacy Policy. The Meta Pixel never runs on The Hall, on film pages in our Archive, or on your account page, and we never tell Meta which film you watched. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we don't load the Meta Pixel and don't report your subscription to Meta. We also use Meta's Marketing API to read our own advertising performance (which of our ads were clicked, and what we spent) and to set tracking tags on our own ads.
We will not add an advertising or behavioral-tracking pixel to any page where you watch or review a film without telling you first.
7. Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers we use to operate Rec Hall, and only as needed for them to provide that service to us:
- Stripe — payment processing and billing.
- Whop — if you subscribe through a Whop creator's link, Whop runs that checkout and collects your payment details directly, bills and renews your membership, and tracks which creator referred you so it can pay their commission. Whop handles that information under Whop's own Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — account authentication and our database.
- Mux — video hosting and streaming.
- Resend — delivery of the account and programming emails described in Section 4.
- Google — analytics, as described in Section 6.
- Meta — advertising measurement, as described in Section 6.
We do not sell your personal information. Apart from the Meta advertising measurement described in Section 6, we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes.
8. What's public
Any rating, review, or comment you post — on a film, or, before launch, about Rec Hall itself — is visible to other visitors, signed in or not. Your account email, password, billing details, and viewing history are not public.
Subscribed members can also open a profile page for any member, showing that member's username, profile photo, and the ratings and reviews they've posted. A review of the current week's film stays hidden there until the person viewing it has rated that film too. You can make your profile private in Account → Profile; your ratings and reviews still appear on each film's page.
9. Data retention
We keep your account and billing information for as long as your account is active, and as needed afterward to meet our legal, accounting, and dispute-resolution obligations.
10. Data security
We keep the credentials our systems use to talk to Stripe, Whop, Supabase, and Mux out of any code that runs in your browser — they exist only on our servers. We never store your complete card number ourselves; that's handled entirely by Stripe (or by Whop, for memberships bought through Whop).
11. Children
Rec Hall is for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13, we'll delete it. If you're between 13 and 17, please use the Service with a parent or guardian's involvement, including for payment.
12. Where you are
Rec Hall is primarily offered to users in the United States, and the rights described below may vary depending on where you live. If you're located somewhere with its own specific privacy rights (for example, a right to access, correct, or delete your data), contact us at ryan@rechallmovies.com and we'll do our best to help, consistent with the laws that apply to you.
13. Your choices
You can update your profile information from your account page at any time. You can cancel your subscription at any time (see our Subscription, Cancellation & Refund Policy). To request deletion of your account and associated data, email ryan@rechallmovies.com. To keep the Meta Pixel from loading and your subscription from being reported to Meta, turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (or use a browser that has it on by default); you can also block or clear cookies in your browser settings.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective / last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version.
